The Third Party

I co-wrote, directed, produced, and edited The Third Party, a feature mockumentary that follows five eccentric, unknown presidential hopefuls as they fight to bring their fledgling parties into the spotlight during the 2016 U.S. election. Featuring a mix of scripted and improvised performances by comedians Cathryn Mudon, Jim Santangeli, Connor Ratliff, Ryan Karels, and Lynn Berg, the film is intercut with real interviews from actual third-party candidates—including Jill Stein, Vermin Supreme, Jimmy “The Rent Is Too Damn High” McMillan, and viral sensation Deez Nutz. The storylines span demanding donors, unreasonable staff, and the fleeting highs of internet fame, showing how the struggles of fringe candidates mirror those of major contenders, just with less money, fewer perks, and zero recognition. The Third Party was an official selection of the New York Independent Film Festival, and I remain proud of its ambitious scope, biting humor, and unique blend of satire and reality.
